Kuala Kedah Umno division deputy chief Datuk Abdul Muthalib Harun said he was informed of the death of the 60-year-old Hashim when he was on his way to visit him.
"He had been undergoing treatment since last year but his health was deteriorating lately. The last time I met him was during the breaking of a fast event on April 23 and he was still healthy at that time and even delivered a speech," he said when contacted by Bernama.
