TOKYO: Juara lompat bergalah dunia dua kali, Sam Kendricks terpaksa melupakan Sukan Olimpik 2020 selepas dijangkiti Covid-19, umum Jawatankuasa Olimpik dan Paralimpik Amerika Syarikat di Twitter hari ini.
“Dengan sedihnya kami ingin mengesahkan, Sam Kendricks dijangkiti Covid-19 dan tidak akan bertanding dalam Sukan Olimpik Tokyo 2020,” kata USOPC dalam satu kenyataan. Kendricks memenangi dua pingat emas berturut-turut pada Kejohanan Dunia 2017 dan 2019, malah menjadi calon pilihan untuk meraih emas Olimpik bersama pemegang rekod dunia dari Sweden, Armand Duplantis.“Selaras dengan peraturan dan protokol setempat, dia telah dipindahkan ke sebuah hotel untuk ditempatkan secara berasingan di bawah pemantauan USATF serta pegawai USOPC.
“Sam adalah anggota pasukan Amerika Syarikat yang luar biasa dan berjaya. Kehadirannya akan dirindui. Bagi menghormati privasinya, kami tidak dapat memberikan lebih banyak maklumat buat masa ini,” kata USOPC.Keputusan positif itu hadir hanya dua hari sebelum acara lompat bergalah lelaki bermula pada Sabtu ini. – AFP
