PASIR GUDANG: The Johor Environment Department is monitoring the air quality around Tanjung Langsat landfill here following a massive fire.

Its director Dr Mohd Famey Yusoff said they were monitoring the area in collaboration with the Pasir Gudang City Council .

"At the present moment, the Fire and Rescue Department and MBPG are working to put out the fire to ensure that it does not spread. "The Environment Department will inform the public of latest developments from time to time," he said here on Friday evening. Pasir Gudang Fire and Rescue station operations commander Mohd Yusri Atan said nine firemen with one Fire Rescue Tender and a utility vehicle were deployed to the scene at 12.46pm on Friday.Mohd Yusri also said they had to stretch a fire hose over 213m to reach a nearby fire hydrant for water to douse the blaze.
