JOHOR BARU: Five individuals have been arrested by the police here for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol.

Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat said that the arrests were made during a joint operation with the Johor Road Transport Department and the Johor Baru City Council at about 10pm on Saturday .

"Four local men and one woman who are between the ages of 33 and 57 were arrested during the operation for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol," he said in a statement here on Sunday .If found guilty of an offence under the Act, a person can be sentenced to a fine of not less than RM10,000 and not more than RM30,000, and a jail term of up to 12 years.

ACP Raub also said the Johor Baru South Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department issued a total of 83 summonses for various offences following checks on 110 vehicles during the operation."Twelve motorcycles were also seized during the operation for various traffic offences under Section 64 of the Road Transport Act 1987. Drug tests were also conducted on 22 drivers during the operation where all tested negative," said ACP Raub.
