NSTnation: 'Today, the Netherlands will begin the trial of the four suspects, however, this does not mean investigations into those responsible have been finalised.' MH17 TheHague

A statement from the Netherlands Public Prosecution Service said this will ensure investigations run parallel with the criminal trial to start today at the Schiphol Judicial Court complex in Badhoevedorp here. Representatives from Malaysia, Australia, Belgium, Ukraine and the Netherlands signed the extension of the JIT Agreement yesterday.

"For me, the trial is an important step towards finding truth and accountability. The duration of the investigation has put a heavy burden on the families and friends of the MH17 victims. The Netherlands has an inquisitorial legal system, where the court, or a part of the court, is actively involved in investigating the facts of the case.
