INDONESIA: Eruptions at a remote Indonesian volcano forced more than half a dozen airports to close with ash spreading as far as Malaysia, officials said Wednesday (May 1), while authorities rushed to evacuate thousands due to tsunami fears.

JOHOR BARU: The remand period for five people - arrested for alleged child abuse which ultimately caused the death of a nine-month-old baby - has been extended, say police.

“The Johor Baru court has granted an extension of the remand for five more days until Sunday ,” he said in a statement on Wednesday.“All of the suspects arrested do not have any criminal record but one of them tested positive for drugs.
