In Johor, father of three gets two years’ jail for abusing son

JOHOR BARU, Sept 28 — A 39-year-old man was today sentenced to two years’ imprisonment by the Sessions Court here on the charge of abusing his son, which resulted in physical injury three years ago. According to the charge sheet, Viswanathan, a private sector worker in Singapore, had abused the 13-year-old boy to the point of injury from February to August 2017 at a house in Jalan Camar, Taman Perling.The father of three was charged under Section 31 of the Child Act 2001, which was punishable under Section 3 of the same Act by a fine of up to RM50,000, or imprisonment for up to 20 years, or both upon conviction.
