PETALING JAYA: A raid at an entertainment outlet by the Immigration Department in Ipoh led to the arrest of 27 foreigners.

Immigration director-general Datuk Seri Khairul Dzaimee Daud, in a statement on Saturday said that the raid on March 24 encountered an incident where customers tried to prevent officers from doing their duties.

"Some customers tried to provoke officers by making noises and preventing them from searching the premises."Some hid in the ceiling and on the roof but all were successfully apprehended," he said. Fifty eight Malaysians and 28 foreigners were inspected during the raid. Of that, 30 people including three Malaysians were arrested.

They had been brought to the Perak Immigration Department headquarters at the Ipoh Home Ministry Complex for further action.Investigations showed that only regular customers were allowed in and bookings were made over the phone.Customers could also book women for as much as RM150 per hour. "This operation was the result of public tip-offs and our own surveillance which had been conducted for almost a month," he said.
