JI, an Indonesia-based militant Islamist group, was founded in 1993 by Abu Bakar Bashir and Abdullah Sungkar, both Indonesians. The group is notorious for bombings in the early 2000s. While it has been weakened, the group still poses a threat with its cells in Malaysia, Singapore, and the Philippines.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said five family members of the suspect, who was shot dead, have been arrested to assist in the investigation into the brazen attack at the Ulu Tiram police station. In the attack at the Ulu Tiram police station, two policemen were killed and another was injured. The suspect was later shot dead at the scene by other officers.The injured policeman is currently in stable condition, said Razarudin.
