National crime index improves by up to 7.5 pct last year compared to the targeted threshold, says Abdul Hamid.

The national crime index rate has improved, with the police succeeding in dropping it by up to 7.5 percent last year, in comparison to the initial targeted number of cases for the year.

Abdul Hamid said other departments also showed admirable performances last year, including narcotics, commercial crimes and traffic. The Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department also “made history” with mega-scaled seizures including the Sept 10 Ops Eagle seizure of 12 tonnes of cocaine, with a street-value of RM2.4 billion, in Penang.

“Of the overall 101,404 operations, 3,086 suspects were arrested for various traffic offences and 269 for other offences,” the statement read.
