At the district police headquarters in Patani Road, some 200 people formed a queue to obtain the written permit.

After obtaining the forms, some immediately proceeded to nearby photocopy shops to prepare their identification documents. Over at the Sungai Nibong police station, more than 500 people formed a long queue as early as 9pm to obtain the written permit. On Monday night, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin declared that the entire country would be on a movement control order starting from March 18 to 31 to curb the rise in Covid-19 cases.

He reportedly said the decision was made under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 and the Police Act 1967. He added that the prohibition of movement and mass assembly nationwide would include all religious, sports, social and cultural activities.
