PUTRAJAYA: Police have arrested 873 persons who violated the recovery movement control order (MCO), the majority of whom were caught for indulging in pub and nightclub activities.

Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said that 580 individuals were arrested in pubs and nightclubs on Sunday by the taskforce monitoring compliance of the order.

He said other offences include failure to observe social distancing , failure to put on face masks , operating businesses beyond permitted hours , and illegal immigrants . Police also arrested business premises operators who failed to provide a logbook for customer registration , suspected vice activities , quarantine violations and preventing civil servants from their discharging their duties .

“Of those arrested, police issued compounds to 797 offenders, remanded 71 people and allowed five to be released on bail, ” he said in regular briefing here on Monday . The taskforce made 58,147 checks on Sunday, including on transport terminals, government offices, hawkers, banks and factories.
