There are no US troops fighting in Israel’s war in Gaza, but many US citizens have lost family members there. Senator Bernie Sanders also drew comparisons with Vietnam, noting former President Lyndon Johnson’s decision not to run in 1968 amid growing anger over the war in Vietnam.
