HK pro-democracy lawmakers in bid to overturn mask ban

THE majority of Hong Kong’s subway stations remain closed today as the city braces for more protests, with pro-democracy activists vowing to hit the streets and opposition lawmakers trying to overturn a ban on face coverings. Thousands of demonstrators staged unsanctioned marches and flash-mob protests in multiple places yesterday, a day after the city’s leader outlawed masks at protests, invoking colonial-era emergency powers not used for half a century.
