KAJANG: More private companies should get involved with the Prisons Department to help convicts out on parole reintegrate into society by teaching them employable skills, says Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

The Home Minister said the number of companies involved in the Corporate Smart Internship programme could be improved.

“That’s why we did this event today. We want to spread awareness to the public and the corporate sector to come forward and get involved, ” he said after opening a CSI programme at the department headquarters yesterday. Muhyiddin said the ministry’s goal was to have two-thirds of prisoners undergo rehabilitation within the community by 2030.

“So far, 2, 928 inmates have benefited from this programme involving around 80 companies nationwide, ” he said.
