Yesterday, coach Hasan Sazali Waras’ charges got their first win in the Under-20 Asian Cup 2023 qualifiers in Group E but it was the number of chances missed that became a bigger topic.
Aliff Izwan Yuslan netted a brace in the 30th and 94th minutes, while Adam Farhan Faizal was also on target in the 70th.The strikeforce just weren’t potent enough and were denied several times by the heroics of Sri Lankan goalkeeper Banuka Croos. Aliff admitted he should have scored a hattrick and has already switched his focus to the much tougher game against South Korea on Sunday.
“We struggled in the first half because the conditions were cold and wet. In the second half, we were much better but we should have been sharper with our chances,” said the 17-year-old, who plays for Selangor II. “We have to be much more clinical against South Korea if we are to get something out of that match.”Meanwhile, South Korea thrashed Mongolia 7-0, going one better than their opening 6-0 drubbing of Sri Lanka 6-0.
