Presiden NUTP Amiruddin Awang berkata, kerajaan sebaliknya perlu mengatasi masalah kebimbangan berhubung kualiti guru dan mengkaji semula silibus subjek bahasa Inggeris. Sementara itu jurucakap Majlis Perundingan Melayu Hasan Mad berkata, kumpulan itu akan meneruskan tekanan, termasuk mengadakan himpunan cendekiawan Melayu pada 4 Julai depan bagi membantah langkah itu.
Mahathir berkata, Malaysia masih ketinggalan dalam penguasaan bahasa Inggeris yang merupakan bahasa utama bagi bidang sains dan teknologi.
