Former finance minister Lim Guan Eng pleaded not guilty at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court on Friday to a charge of soliciting a bribe related to the controversial RM6.3bil Penang undersea tunnel project. Read more:

Former finance minister Lim Guan Eng has pleaded not guilty to a bribery charge related to the RM6.3bil Penang undersea tunnel project.

Lim, also the former chief minister of Penang , was accused of requesting 10% of the profits from Datuk Zarul Ahmad Zulkifli as a bribe in order to get the contract for the project. Zarul is the senior executive director of Consortium Zenith Construction Sdn Bhd , the firm which was awarded the project.

The MACC charged Lim under Section 16 of the MACC Act 2009, which carries a fine up to five times the value of the bribe or RM10,000, and imprisonment not exceeding 20 years.: Lim departs the Duta Court Complex shortly after posting bail.Court proceedings are over, with next mention of the case set for Sept 9. Lim is expected to face more charges in the Penang Sessions Court next week.

Zarul is the senior executive director of Consortium Zenith Construction Sdn Bhd , the firm which was awarded the project.The MACC charged Lim under Section 16 of the MACC Act 2009, which carries a fine up to five times the value of the bribe or RM10,000, and imprisonment not exceeding 20 years.Lim Guan Eng is in the dock. His lawyers are fellow DAP members Ramkarpal Singh and Gobind Singh Deo. Also seen in the courtroom is Lim’s father, DAP stalwart leader Lim Kit Siang.
