Graft watchdog calls for Penang undersea tunnel to be put on hold pending probe

Businessman M.G. Gnanaraja faces charges of cheating Zenith Consortium of RM19 million in 2017, by hoodwinking the contractor firm’s managing director Zarul Ahmad Mohd Zulkifli into believing that Gnanaraja could use his connections to shut down MACC investigation into the contractor. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, April 16, 2019.

PENANG should halt construction of the undersea tunnel until graft investigations into the project are completed, an anti-corruption group said. Centre to Combat Corruption and Cronyism said Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow should place a moratorium on the state’s agreement with project contractor Zenith Consortium, as well as conduct an independent audit into the consortium’s fleet of companies to eliminate any potential conflict of interest and likelihood of corruption.
