KOTA KINABALU: Sabah wildlife authorities may be able to find the source of poison that caused the death of the elephant in Kinabatangan as it was tagged with a GPS-equipped collar.

While the real story behind suspected acute poisoning of the female elephant found dead at Kinabatangan is still being determined, authorities might be able to shed light on the source of poisoning.

said the pachyderm possibly ate something tainted with fertiliser or similar products – or it was intentionally poisoned. The elephant's death was the fourth in two months. "Next year will be an important year, we want to spend more money to take care of our wildlife," she stressed. "I don't think it was intentional because of where it died. What I think it could be is long-term poisoning in terms of consumption," he told The Star.
