KUALA LUMPUR: Home Minister Muhyiddin Yassin says the government is looking to amend laws on gambling to include online gambling, as the existing laws on the matter were passed decades ago.

“ updating because at that time, there was no online gambling,” he said during the question-and-answer session in the Dewan Rakyat today.He was replying to Jalaluddin Alias , who asked if there were plans to amend the gambling laws drawn up in the 1950s and 60s which could be considered obsolete. He added that some syndicates earn up to RM300,000 a day, operating without a licence and with only two to three workers.Alice Lau meanwhile urged the government to take action on police officers whom she said are involved in illegal gambling in Sibu.Muhyiddin said he would not hesitate to act against any police officer found to be involved in illegal gambling activities.

One of the way to increase tax collection is to legalise sports betting which currently only enriches the illegal operators. Like it or not, sports betting is only going to get bigger and this is one big amount this country is missing out.
