MACHANG: Continuous meetings would be held between the government and stakeholders in the chicken supply chain to ensure stable and sufficient supply of the birds, says the Agriculture and Food Industries Ministry (Mafi).

Its minister Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee said breeders and farm operators had shown their commitment to strengthening the country’s food security while ensuring a continuous supply of chickens.

He added that the government also strived to set up price control mechanisms to ensure the people were not burdened by the rising cost of living. “In addition, buffer stocks for chickens are being imported in stages by the Farmers Organisation Board with a total capacity of 4,536 metric tonnes by the end of this month,” he told Bernama after visiting a chicken farm in Kampung Dalam Huma here yesterday.

Kiandee said the government would ensure the poultry and egg industry remained sustainable by providing subsidies to industry players so that the supply would always be sufficient and at a stable and affordable price.Article type: free
