KUALA LUMPUR: The government is highly committed to addressing and implementing climate actions to further reduce the country's carbon emissions, although Malaysia's share of the global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions is only at 0.69%.

Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad said the government also remains dedicated to realising the net-zero GHG emissions target while balancing the economic needs of the nation and the people’s well-being.

"As the Minister of Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change, my main priority will be the Nationally Determined Contributions Roadmap and Long-term Low Emissions Development Strategies which will determine our pathway towards net-zero GHG emissions," he said.

"The trading is open, which means that you can trade across the border. What is important is that this does not affect our NDC at the Paris Agreement," he said during the press conference after the event. The minister also said that Malaysian carbon credits traded under BCX shall not be utilised for the purpose of meeting the NDC of other countries or for other international mitigation purposes, and this requirement has been incorporated in the BCX Rules.

‘Ensure Kuala Lumpur mayor given independence to run city’THE absence of a Federal Territories Ministry to oversee the running of the Federal Territories can be a catalyst for more independent governing of Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan. Shd hv election for local councils and mayor. At least for KL for a start zahirhassan Agree with YB Zahir. In my opinion not only is it not critical but UNNECESSARY. Having 2 captains steering a ship would only lead to confusions and chaos and eventually could even sink the ship. Just my two sen zahirhassan No need to have FT minister. But someone must hold city mayor accountable. DBKL budget is as big as Selangor budget. Can you imagine no one monitor DBKL whether they spend wisely or misuse budget? Mayor election is the way to go
