Minister M Saravanan says Malaysia Airlines Berhad has informed the ministry that retrenchment of workers will only be a last resort measure. FMTNews MAB

The human resources ministry met the Malaysia Airlines Berhad management on March 11 and was informed of several preliminary steps taken since the Covid-19 outbreak, which has affected air travel.

Minister M Saravanan reminded employers to adhere to employment laws, collective agreements and code of conduct. “At a meeting with the MAB management on March 11, the ministry was informed that several preliminary steps had been taken since the Covid-19 outbreak, including a briefing by the company’s chief executive officer to all employees via the eVoice system and engagement sessions on March 10,” Saravanan said in a statement today.He confirmed that MAB is also encouraging staff to voluntarily take three months’ unpaid leave or five days’ of unpaid leave per month over a three-month period.
