The chief minister says federal government funding does not commensurate with the state's overall contribution to the country's GDP. FMTNews ChowKonYeow Penang PDC

Chow Kon Yeow says the federal government must reward Penang fairly for its contribution to the GDP.

According to the statistic department’s 2019 Penang Economic Performance Report, most of the RM94.7 billion came from the services sector and manufacturing , with construction , agricultural and mining among the other contributors. Chow also highlighted the disparity in the funding received by the state, saying that Universiti Sains Malaysia alone received RM525 million in allocations last year, compared with the RM195.1 million given to the state government in annual federal grants between 2017 and June 2018.

He said the state had asked for the funding via the 12th Malaysia Plan for the Bayan Lepas LRT project, with the transport ministry saying “no” in a letter dated June 17.
