Gerakan to contest in Tanjung Piai by-election

Party president Datuk Dr Dominic Lau confirmed this after the party's central committee meeting at the party headquarters in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday .

"The central committee has decided that party deputy president Oh Tong Keong will be appointed as the by-election machinery director and the operations centre will be led by former Skudai assemblyman Datuk Teo Kok Chee, who is also theJohor Gerakan chairman . Earlier, Dr Lau reportedly said that party grassroots had supported the party to contest as it is still a political party after quitting the Barisan Nasional coalition in June last year.

The Tanjung Piai seat fell vacant after the death of its MP Datuk Dr Md Farid Md Rafik from complications following a heart attack. In the 14th General Election, Dr Farid of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia had defeated Barisan's Datuk Seri Wee Jeck Seng of MCA and PAS' Nordin Othman.
