Dzulkefly, who was health minister under the Pakatan Harapan government, had postponed his political retirement plans to slug it out with Tengku Zafrul.
Dzulkefly first won the Kuala Selangor constituency in 2008 with a 862-vote majority and in 2018, he secured the seat with a 8,498-vote majority. Other candidates in the running are Perikatan Nasional's Mohd Noor Mohd Sahar and Parti Pejuang Tanah Air candidate Mohd Shaid Rosli representing GTA.
