Bagaimanapun, pensyarah kanan Fakulti Kejuruteraan Kimia UiTM Shah Alam, Zulkifli Abdul Rashid berkata kebarangkalian menghidap kanser bergantung kepada beberapa faktor. PasirGudang FMTnews

Pengarah Kesihatan Johor, Dr Selahuddeen Abd Aziz membantu pelajar Sekolah Kebangsaan Kopok, Pasir Gudang yang mengalami gejala sesak nafas dan mual, semalam.

“Jika mereka terdedah dengan bau gas ini terlalu lama, ia bukan saja memudaratkan kesihatan bagi kesan jangka pendek, tetapi boleh membahayakan organ dalaman sehingga bertindak balas menghasilkan bentuk kanser untuk kesan jangka panjang,” katanya ketika dihubungi Bernama. “Selain itu, aspek geografi atau kedudukan penempatan penduduk yang tinggal berdekatan punca pencemaran udara yang berlaku ketika ini lebih berisiko tinggi menghidap kanser dalam masa lebih singkat berbanding mereka yang tinggal berjauhan daripada punca pencemaran gas ini.”

Gangguan kesihatan di kawasan Pasir Gudang sejak 20 Jun lalu itu adalah yang ke-2 selepas kes pembuangan sisa kimia di Sungai Kim Kim pada 3 bulan lalu yang menyebabkan lebih 4,000 orang jatuh sakit dan 111 sekolah ditutup. Katanya, bau hidrogen sulfida menusuk hidung seperti bau telur busuk, manakala hidrogen sianida digambarkan sesekali mempunyai bau “badam pahit” tetapi tidak semua orang dapat mengesan bau itu.
