Kota Kinabalu: Putrajaya's decision to transfer gas regulatory power to Sabah is a welcomed year-end gift that signals better times ahead for state and federal relations.

Lauding the move, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor described the decision as a step in the right direction towards fulfilling the rights of Sabah and Sarawak under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 . "The unity government helmed by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has demonstrated their readiness to return Sabah and Sarawak's rights as provided in MA63," he told reporters after officiating the Christmas open house celebration organised by Parti Bersatu Sabah yesterday.

The Prime Minister announced the decision on Wednesday that the transfer of power would commence after getting the consent of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong. He said the landmark decision was also attributed to the contributions of Sabah leaders, including PBS President Datuk Seri Maximus Ongkili, during his tenure as minister at the federal level.Previously, Maximus served as Minister in the Prime Minister's Department for Sabah and Sarawak Affairs.
