‘GameStop Daycare’ is a thing and employees are tired of it:

“There was one instance in particular in which a woman came by and asked me if she could leave her kids here while she went to get her hair done,” another current employee said. “I told her that not only could she not leave her kids at the store because it is a retail space, but that it’s illegal to knowingly leave your children unattended. She didn’t take too kindly to my answer, and I was a bit more aggressive with my wording at the time if I’m honest.

Another couldn’t believe anyone would trust their kids to a video game store clerk in the first place. “I’m not a parent but I’ve had small children in my family for years and the oldest just recently turned 12,” they said. “If any of those kids were left alone in the ‘care’ of a GameStop employee, I’d be livid.”But no one, it seems, is more livid than the GameStop employees who are fed up with other people’s kids.

Talked about this like 4 years ago lol

Or how bout u take the child left at GameStop and put em in a adoption orphanage if there is one nearby since the patent clearly doesn't want em or a group home lol

Here's an idea ban kids from pysicaly coming into the store problem solved besides kids r annoying snots to put up with whenever I occasionally pop in for a visit

Ironically GameStop is not in a position to be particularly picky with its customers.

You know you could make a lot more money buying GME than taking backhanders from people who shorted it and writing shitty articles like this

we get it, hedgies are paying you, but you can be more original other than reposting the same shit over and over

That company needs as many forms of revenue as it can get. If being a mini-day care is what it takes, they should be more than welcoming it.

About as tired as we are of this article.

Kotaku repost is a thing and followers are sick of it

Here’s a solution: every time a parent leaves their kid, call child services to come pick the kid up and charge the parents for negligence

Shut up get back to work for your minimum wage

Easier to swindle kids than their parents

it was like this when i worked at Gamestop back in 2008. Any employee will tell you that Gamestop encouraged this as they saw the kids as future customers

I actually feel kind of bad now. I used to just play the demos. I was never bad or anything but I know that was probably stressful for the workers.

Thank God the one I go to doesn't have kiosks (gotta make room for those Funko pops... 😆). It's in a strip mall where the only stores around it are Starbucks, T-Mobile, and Petco...

Play ice cream truck music outside across the street and leave the door open.

Imagine if there was some other reason to go to a GameStop

Imagine if Gamestop started calling CPS on these parents.

I said this as an employee 10 years ago. This isn’t news.

Easy solution, if you're in a mall - call security and report a missing child in the store. If you're not in a mall, call the police.

I used to work in a mall store and literally used to kick kids out of my store who were unattended at my store after 15 minutes. I am like 'where is your parent?' yeah I can't let you stay here unattended. Some parents got PISSED but idgaf

this is a funny article image

guess every parent that ever left their child in the arcade during the 80s/90s were irresponsible. arcades weren't responsible for your child's safety either. This only became a safety concern after companies were getting sued, and therefore become a liability to the company.

Yall are a bunch of hacks.

Short the company then! 😂😂

This is why i dont like the name jacob 😂

I recall those moments

sponsoredcontent

Kick the kids out

they would make bank if they had something like that for daycare

Imagine getting paid to write this

Wow!! This is super bullish for GameStop gme. Locations are so popular with children (lifelong gamers / customers) that they come in to hangout and get familiar with all the new products they can ask their parents to purchase for birthdays and Christmas. 🚀 GME

I remember Zero Originality talking about this. So unfair to the employees.

Guilty as charged, when I was a kid I would mostly just spend hours reading through their strategy guides and would even use it for my GBA games. Coincidentally the last time it happened was the one time they finally told me to stop loitering 🫢🤣

I think the main issue is there is ever only 1 employee on shift most of the time and watching little shit head kids to make sure they don’t steal or break something while doing other stuff isn’t part of the job. I tell any kid under 16 to bring a parent or leave 🤷‍♂️

It is, I used to work in Gamestop and moms would leave their kids there to play on the PS3, 360 or Wii stations while they ran to one of the clothing stores.

Ngl, kinda nice to see a kotaku article with quotes.

Lmfao I've NEVER seen kids without their parents in a gamestop store in over 20 years. Nice try.....

GameStop would be wise to let the kids, hell anyone, to hang out in their stores. I remember when I was young and hung out at gaming stores. Spent all my extra $$ there. Right up to the moment 'they' stopped making it a great place to be at. Then many of them closed.

And your followers are tired of you shilling for Wall St when it comes to Gamestop. Their community conducted DD into you guys as well.

GME should acquire Dave&Busters truly takeover the whole Gaming Entertainment ecosystem GME

That should be their new business model - Gamestop Day Cares - maybe they can stay in business!?

GameStopHelp GameStop Just an idea but why do you still bother putting cases on shelves? They should be replaced by screens that open trailers testimonials, maybe demos ,live streams. Let your employees have fun and help gamers; embrace the times stop the nonsense tasks.

The Gamestop I used to work at was next to a bar...so mom & dad got trashed while I had to chase their kids around to stop them from ripping games off the shelf. Oh & then holding the store open past closing to wait for their belligerent parents to pick them up. Oh the memories!

Lol some people. I wouldn't trust my dog with a gamestop employee for 5 minutes

Could always unplug the demo units from inside the casing

I was a library page for a while and we had a similar problem there. Parents would come in upset asking where their kids were or why we let them leave I always answered “because they walked out 🤷🏽” It is a frustrating issue for sure.

Are you kidding? I spent thousands of hours playing demo games in department stores as a kid. I used to stand there all day teaching people to play Sea Battle on the Intellivision.

I worked for EB Games between 2015-2018. The worst case of this was when a lady dropped off her two kids (around 9-12 y/o) with lunchboxes. They were in the store for a few hours playing a Rocket League PS4 Demo before we asked if they knew where their parents were but they didnt

So what I’m getting from this is GameStop store locations are so enjoyable to hang out in. Something that digital sales and Amazon could never replace 🤔 super bullish article ty you big 🧠 'journalists'

Once worked in a comic store - same.

In the PS2 era I would literally spend hours in there just reading game cases and the manuals inside.

Thanks for the idea! Needed daycare today

Given GameStop's projections for the next few years, I say they get themselves certified and roll with it.

I used to tell the parent(s) the kids wouldn’t be there when they came back. “Police or social services will take them from the store if you don’t, hopefully they’ll arrive before another customer takes them, we get some right weirdos shopping here.”

Lol what’s the difference of parent dropping kids off at the arcades in 80 and 90 !

This has been a thing for decades. It was that way when I worked for Gamestop almost 15 years ago.

I didn't know this was even a thing. That's pretty irresponsible parenting, and I feel bad for the employees for having to put up with that crap.

This has been going on for 20 plus years.... nothing new here.

As an ex-Gamestop employee: vouch

BREAKING: Toy store hates children.

Hard-hitting journalism here...

LMAO rensole. How surprising another hit piece? It's always so clear that they are clickbaiting us. What I love is that if they keep talking about a dying Brick and Mortar, it just makes it even more obvious that we've won.

Nothing will compare to working there during the prime of guitar hero and listening to that demo play your entire eight hour shift....😂

Nobody cares

Memories....
