FT Mufti: Alcohol-based sanitiser can be used when performing prayers

Thursday, 12 Mar 2020 10:01 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR, March 12 — The use of alcohol-based hand sanitiser is permissible when performing prayers as it is considered a necessity and forgivable, according to the Office of the Federal Territory Mufti. According to the portal, the National Fatwa Council’s Committee ruled that alcohol that is not produced through the process of making liquor is not unclean but “haram” to be consumed, whereas alcohol from the process of making liquor is considered haram and unclean.

“This is clear as the National Fatwa Council’s Committee had decided that medications and fragrances containing alcohol are a necessity and therefore is forgivable,” the portal added.

What?

FreemanFr66 Use your head. Keep your religion in your heart. Control your mouth. If your God needs you to defend him, You might as well stop your prayers.

FFS even hand sanitizer needs clearance

Please practice good hand hygiene

They can use alcohol based sanitizer but not alcohol perfumes? Confused

I don’t see anything wrong with this statement. Covid has been label as pandemic by WHO. This is the precaution who hv to take in this dire situation. Do we want this virus to spread & become the next Italy Islam itu memudahkan & memahami, insyaallah prayer will be accepted🤲🏻

Aiyo, if too worried, don't use sanitizer lah before praying. Kan you have wudhu, already washed hands after wudhu before pray ma. Use sanitizer after doa and wirid, okay? It's not like you wanna pick your nose while you takbiratul ihram.

So the same deal with putting ethanol in petrol to make it cleaner and more cheaper is okay too then?

It’s not for drinking but medicine, of cos can be used

safety first

What

Somehow the beer cans seemed more scary
