French police officer to remain in custody over alleged violence

The police officer was charged with causing severe injuries to a 22-year-old man named Hedi in the early hours of July 2.

Violent protests broke out in several French cities at the end of June and continued for days after a 17-year-old of North African descent was shot dead by a policeman after he failed to comply with an order to stop his car. The case at the centre of today’s ruling concerned the detention of a police officer charged with causing severe injuries to 22-year-old Hedi in the early hours of July 2.
