JOHOR BARU: Four army personnel and a public university employee are among eight people arrested for allegedly stealing 23 cows in Kulai.

Johor police chief Comm Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said the cows were reported stolen on May 16 and June 24.

“Police launched eight raids in Kulai, Pontian, Skudai and around here between 1am and 7.30am on Friday morning, which resulted in the arrests of the suspects. “Four of them are army personnel, two auxiliary policemen, one public university employee and one member of the public, between the ages of 27 and 48,” he said in a statement.

Comm Ayob also added police seized a shotgun, 76 live bullets, two shotgun barrels, a pickup truck which belongs to the university, two axes, four small knives, a motorcycle and three parangs.He said all the detainees were being remanded for three days until June 28 to assist with the investigation under Section 379 of the Penal Code and Section 39 of the Firearms Act 1960.

Comm Ayob added police would not tolerate and protect any enforcement personnel and civil servants found to be committing crimes.
