Food bank programme to include private varsities

Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail says UiTM is the 19th public varsity to launch the Food Bank Siswa programme. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, October 22, 2019.

THE Food Bank Siswa programme will be expanded to include private institutions of higher learning starting next year, as there is strong demand following its success in helping B40 students at almost 20 public universities. Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the target is for the programme to cover 123 IPTS, including polytechnics and teacher training institutes, nationwide.

rahah_ghazali Its GOOD to help the needy but it shows our economy circle is no longer positive. I believe foodbanks were developed to combat ‘food poverty’, a term closely related to food insecurity, defined as inability to obtain an adequate, nutritious diet. This is a really sad truth.
