PETALING JAYA: The government has issued a stern reminder to contractors to ensure that their construction sites and workers' accommodation follow the guidelines and laws to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

Senior Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said it is the responsibility of the contractors to ensure their construction sites and workers' accommodation follow the standard operating procedures and minimum standards as required by law.

"I would like to express my concern regarding the latest cases of Covid-19 involving construction workers recently. "These positive cases were discovered after the contractor sent its 400 workers for Covid-19 clinical tests as a preparation to start work, as required under the Construction Industry conditional MCO SOPs.

Fadillah said these cases, as well as earlier ones involving construction workers, have shown that infection of Covid-19 had happened at the workers' accommodation that was cramped with too many labourers, making it impossible to practise any form of social distancing.
