MERSING: A search and rescue (SAR) operation has been mounted for a missing woman feared drowned at Jalan Nitar Utama near here following flash floods.

The Johor Fire and Rescue Department operation centre said they received an emergency call regarding the incident on Monday at 6.49am.

Mersing fire station chief Abdul Muiz Mokhtar said the victim was driving when her car was swept away by the strong currents. “Eleven firefighters from the Mersing and Endau fire stations were deployed to the scene,’’ he said in a statement. He said the car driven by the victim, whose identity is yet to be identified, was believed to have skidded on the road shoulder when the incident happened.
