JOHOR BARU: The number of flood victims in Johor have continued to escalate from 1,827 people from 466 families at noon on Sunday (Jan 2) to 2,022 people from 512 families four hours later.

State Health and Environment Committee chairman R. Vidyananthan said the highest number of victims is recorded at Kampung Tenang, followed by Kampung Paya Lang and Kampung Jawa, all in Segamat.

"They are currently placed at Sekolah Kebangsaan Kampung Tenang, SK Batu Anam, and Dewan Serbaguna Logah, respectively," he said in a statement here on Sunday. Five rivers in Johor have also recorded dangerous levels, namely Sungai Kesang and Sungai Tangkak in Tangkak; Sungai Segamat, Sungai Lenik, and Sungai Muar in Segamat.

There are also six roads that have been closed due to two floods, namely Jalan Kampung Orang Asli Peta and Jalan Kampung Orang Asli Punan in Mersing; and Jalan Puting, Jalan Bukit Tempurung, Jalan Kuala Paya Balai Badang, and Jalan Tumang in Segamat.
