Floods: Fewer victims at shelters in Johor on Saturday (Jan 8)

Johor Health and Environment Committee chairman R. Vidyananthan said that good weather has continued to allow places previously affected by floods to slowly improve and evacuees allowed to return home.“There are currently 56 temporary relief centres in operation, with 33 in Segamat, 11 in Tangkak, 10 in Muar and two in Batu Pahat,” he said in a statement here.

He also warned people in Mersing to be cautious following a storm warning issued by the Malaysian Meteorological Department . “There are also five river locations that have dangerous level readings, namely Kampung Olak Sepam, Panchor and Liang Batu in Muar, Buloh Kasap in Segamat and Kampung Labong in Mersing.

“There are still 10 roads that are closed, with four in Muar, three in Tangkak, two in Segamat and one in Kota Tinggi,” he said. The closed roads are Jalan Tekam-Pogoh, Jalan Durian Chondong, Jalan Muar-Labis , Jalan Muar-Labis in Muar, Jalan Durian Chondong , Jalan Parit Cina, Jalan Pencu in Tangkak, Jalan Puting and Jalan Pogoh in Segamat, and Jalan Felda Bukit Aping in Kota Tinggi.
