KUALA LUMPUR: The Irrigation and Drainage Department (DID) has issued a notice of preparedness for possible flash floods in Penang, Perak, Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Melaka, Johor, Terengganu, Sarawak and Sabah, as of 4pm Friday (Nov 18).

In a statement, it said that based on the weather forecast by the Malaysian Meteorological Department , the South-Eastern Asia-Oceania Flash Flood Guidance System and DID’s flood forecast model, there is a possibility of flash floods in several locations if heavy rain or a significant thunderstorm occur within 24 hours of the notice being issued.

The areas in Penang are the South-West and North-East Districts as well as Central and North Seberang Prai.The other areas are Batu Pahat and Pontian ; Port Dickson ; Besut ; Limbang, Bintulu and Kuching ; and Beaufort . Meanwhile, a statement from MetMalaysia predicted wind concentration in the coastal areas of Kelantan and Terengganu on Saturday , with the potential for thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds.
