“The victims are from Taman Sri Panchor, Kampung Sengkuang, Kampung Baru Sri Gading, Pekan Seri Gading and Kampung Seri Tanjung. “The evacuees comprise 68 men, 60 women, 46 children, six babies, three persons with disability and 21 senior citizens. “A four-hour continuous downpour from about 1.30am Wednesday , coinciding with high tide at Sungai Simpang Kanan here, resulted in flash floods hitting the locations,” the statement added.
It noted that the weather had cleared over Batu Pahat but authorities would remain on standby and monitor the situation, especially in the flood-hit areas.
