Flood evacuation toll rises in 4 states, unchanged in Kelantan

THE number of flood evacuees in four states – Pahang, Perak, Terengganu and Johor – registered an increase this morning, and remained unchanged in Kelantan. The state Disaster Management Committee secretariat said 346 people are housed at a relief centre in Temerloh, 35 evacuees are in two centres in Bera, and 68 victims have been sent to one centre in Pekan.

The secretariat also said the water level in Sungai Triang in Bera has passed the danger mark, while two others – Sungai Pahang in Paloh Hinai, Pekan, and Sungai Jempol in Maran – are at warning level. , two more relief centres have been opened in the Muallim and Manjung districts to accommodate 175 people from 43 families as at midnight.

MetMalaysia also predicted thunderstorms and heavy rain to hit several districts namely Kuala Kangsar, Manjung, Kinta, Perak Tengah, Kampar, Bagan Datuk and Hilir Perak., the number of flood evacuees increased slightly to 199 people from 53 families this morning, compared with 196 people from 52 families last night.

The SDMC secretariat said that as at 8am, seven relief centres had been opened in six districts – Kuala Terengganu , Kuala Nerus , Dungun , Kemaman , Besut , and Setiu . , 50 people from Kampung Kuala Paya, Kampung Seberang Batu Badak and Kampung Batu 5 were evacuated to a relief centre. Based on data from the Irrigation and Drainage Department, the water level of Sungai Muar in Kampung Awat, Segamat, has exceeded the warning level with a reading of 19.79m, while the same river in Buloh Kasap, Segamat, is at the warning level of 9m., remains at 1,929, with 601 families in seven relief centres, namely, SK Tok Deh, SK Kedai Tanjong, SK Gual Periok, Masjid Mukim Padang Licin, Putat Tujoh, SK Kubang Kual, and SK Sri Kiambang. – Bernama, December 13, 2022.
