In a statement issued after the 40th and 41st Asean Summits and Related Summits in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, the leaders stated that Asean shall also consider exploring other approaches that could support the implementation of the 5PC in bid to restore peace and stability in Myanmar.
There is a need for an implementation plan to outline concrete, practical and measurable indicators with specific timeline to support the 5PC, they added. The leaders agreed for Asean to seek all parties concerned to adhere to and implement the 5PC as well as for Asean to engage all stakeholders soon, and Asean leaders said the engagement would be done in a flexible and informal manner, primarily undertaken by the Special Envoy of the Asean Chair on Myanmar.
Asean Leaders also urged all parties concerned to de-escalate tensions and exercise utmost restraint, and all parties concerned that bear arms should be fairly held accountable and condemned for violence, noting that the Myanmar Armed Force is the single largest military force in Myanmar.
