KOTA KINABALU: Sabah and the federal government are moving in the right direction, in keeping their election promise to resolve longstanding issues connected to eroded state rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal said the announcement of seven issues resolved by the Special Cabinet Committee was a reflection of real efforts to resolve the various issues for Sabah and Sarawak under the agreement.are discussing it through the Special Task Force Team to report to the committee.

“Those we have agreed on, has been announced by the Prime Minister’s Office, ” Shafie told reporters after attending the launch of his wife Datin Seri Shuryani Shuaib’s cookbook “Curry Leaves” by Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Christina Liew on Tuesday . On the state level, he said that Sabah has appointed a company to take necessary measures in the return of Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd back to the state government, and also look into the technical issues.

Many more issues are still on the discussion table including 40% of the federal revenue derived from the state that should be returned to the state, as well oil royalty, Shafie said.“For federal revenue from the state, we need an in-depth scrutiny as we do not have any statistics on how much federal revenue is earned from Sabah. We may have to look at the various federal outfits that carry out revenue collection.

“As we see progress, what is important is that we are heading towards realising state rights, ” he said.
