KUCHING: Federal civil servants serving in Sarawak will receive a RM500 bonus from the state government.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg announced the bonus at the state civil service day celebration here on Wednesday after discussing this with his Cabinet colleagues who were also present.

"I understand that there are some 95,000 federal civil servants in Sarawak. Many of them are teachers, medical officers and police personnel serving in rural areas. "In appreciation of their service, we have decided to give a special payment of RM500 to all federal civil servants in Sarawak," he said, adding that the bonus would be paid by June next year.

This sum is on top of the RM500 special payment for civil servants announced in the federal Budget 2020, which will be paid before the end of the year.
