Police were shocked to find a wedding being held in Butterworth despite such events being banned under the MCO.

BUTTERWORTH: Nineteen family members and a photographer were each slapped with a fine of RM2,000 for holding a wedding ceremony during the movement control order period. Seberang Prai police chief Noorzainy Mohd Noor said policemen on patrol discovered a wedding was being held at a housing area here while monitoring compliance with SOPs yesterday.“We immediately took action to issue compound notices to the 19 family members and a photographer present at the wedding,” he said.

Noorzainy said he was baffled by the attitude of certain people who refused to observe the SOPs meant to prevent the spread of Covid-19.Besides the 20 people at the wedding, Noorzainy said compound notices were also issued against 21 others who breached the SOPs in the district yesterday.Subscribe to our newsletter and get news delivered to your mailbox.
