The four-storey flats with 60 units, including 10 commercial units, were advertised for sale in the early 1960s.
As the years went by, many owners who by then could afford bigger places, left and rented out their units. StarMetro reached out to the lead lawyer who handled the case, Viola De Cruz, who managed to find a buyer for the building and also come up with a global settlement to the tune of RM20mil to settle the case between the landowner and unit owners.
“It was a 30-year lease, which was renewable every 30 years. And after 50 years, all the leases had expired and none was renewed,” she said.
