MANILA: An explosion struck Quadrant IV in the east sector of the Maximum Security Compound of the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City, National Capital Region Police Office chief Maj Gen Guillermo Eleazar said.“Demolition is still ongoing and we started with one quadrant. The fourth quadrant is on the left.
He noted that the initial findings showed that the blast was caused by an improvised explosive device. He added that two hand grenades and two blasting caps were seized inside shanties near Quadrant IV following the incident.According to the NCRPO chief, no one was hurt because inmates already evacuated the area.
Eleazar said those who dwelled in Quadrant IV were “violent extremist offenders”. — Philippine Daily Inquirer/ANN
