JOHOR BARU: Former education minister Dr Maszlee Malik has won the Simpang Renggam Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) division chief post.

He defeated division chief Ahmad Ahem, 62, with a majority of 132 votes in a straight fight during the party's election held on Saturday night.

"With the grace of Allah, victory is on our side," he said, adding that he was grateful for the supporting votes of his fellow lawmakers and Bersatu members."Together we will make Simpang Renggam red, strengthen the party and as one, we will make Johor as Bersatu's fortress. Meanwhile, Johor Bersatu chairman Mazlan Bujang survived a three-cornered fight to win the Tebrau Bersatu division chief post.

The next focus would be on Ayer Hitam Bersatu division where its chief Datuk Osman Sapian, who was former Johor mentri besar, would be defending his position against Yong Peng Municipal Council councillor Amin Sitam on Feb 22.
