PETALING JAYA: Supermarkets are seeing unusually long queues prior to the implementation of the two-week lockdown with public, especially parents, ensuring they have food supplies to last them at least one week.

Business consultant Hana Kamari, said essential food items such as eggs, rice, bread, kids formula milk, sauces, soup and curry stock, frozen products and self-care items are the most important to have before the lockdown."I will usually buy self-care items like diapers, soap and shampoo in bulk, so I still have a lot more at home from the last time I bought," said the mother of three."I will usually just order online for other food items that I don't need urgently.

"For vegetables and raw fish or chicken, I will only buy in small quantities as we will usually order food on weekdays," said the 34-year-old who lives in Petaling Jaya. Human resource manager Masrah Marsinda said she had to ensure that important food items for her children are sufficient."Other essential food items are eggs, one whole chicken and chicken cubes for simple meals," the 33-year-old said.

Afiqah Aisyah Saiful Bahar, 29, said long queues at supermarkets had discouraged her from stocking up on milk for her two-year-old daughter. "My daughter only drinks milk of one type of brand and when I wanted to get them Saturday, there was an unusually long line which extended to the back of the store.Afiqah said she went home as she did not want to risk being in a crowded place at a time when Covid-19 cases were high."Luckily I managed to grab my daughter's milk and I arrived before the store opened. When I was done, I saw a long queue at the entrance," she said.
