Fatimah said her 73-year-old husband who used to work as a carpenter had been ill for the past three years while she herself could no longer carry out heavy work due to a workplace accident two years ago.
“My husband is bedridden. His condition worsened after he lost the ability to speak last year,” she said when met at her house in Jalan Mohd Salleh here on Tuesday. She said they now had to rely on their only son Aiman Nurhakim, 18, who worked part-time to sustain the family, adding that their house rent came up to RM600 a month.
The family’s hardship has been brought to the attention of the Anak-Anak Jati Batu Pahat Welfare Association, represented by its special welfare bureau officer Mohd Hamidi Mad Tap.
Why is this couple not in BSH? If you can wheel old people to vote, you can surely knock on their doors on your vigilant rounds and ask if they need help. Take the initiative. They won't walk into your Pusat DUN whatever.
